Marcum Launches LGBT/Non-Traditional Families Practice

Top 100 Firm Marcum LLP has launched a new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and Non-Traditional Family Practice Group, to help LGBT and non-traditional individuals and families navigate changing tax and financial laws.

Created to serve the growing needs of this broadly underserved market, the interdisciplinary group consists of professionals with more than 20 years of experience dealing with the tax and financial rules faced by LGBT couples and families, both state by state and around the country. The group can also offer consulting services on business formation, wealth transfer and other business and individual complications.

"Whether they are married, single, domestic partners or divorced, LGBT and non-traditional families deal with tax and financial issues that are byzantine, at best," said Nanette Lee Miller, the group's national leader and partner-in-charge of assurance services for Marcum's California offices. "LGBT and non-traditional family accounting matters can be legislated by national, state or local government groups, or by regulation or judicial decision, requiring true expertise to navigate this complex web. Each of Marcum's offices can provide the knowledge and experience to solve these challenges, no matter where needs arise."

The group offers the following services: tax planning and compliance; family office services, including bill paying, investment monitoring, medical reimbursement and advocacy, and more; and business assurance, consulting, and forensic and valuation services.

Marcum has offices in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Grand Cayman, China and Hong Kong.
