Marks Paneth Acquires NYC Rival

New York-based firm Marks Paneth & Shron has acquired Leipziger & Breskin LLP in a deal effective Jan. 1.

In a statement announcing the deal, Marks Paneth said that the merger will provide clients in the tri-state area with an expanded portfolio of accounting, audit and tax services. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Six Leipziger partners and 20 employees will be added to Marks Paneth's 46 partners and staff of 300. Leipziger employees will physically move into Marks Paneth's headquarters across Manhattan in April.

Marks Paneth & Shron, which was created in 1999 by the merger of Marks Shron & Co. and Paneth Haber & Zimmerman , was ranked No. 34 on Accounting Today's 2005 list of Top 100 Firms. The firm had revenues of $52.5 million in 2004 operating from its New York and Woodbury, N.Y., offices.
