NASBA starts search for CEO successor

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy has commenced its search for a new president and CEO to succeed longtime leader Ken Bishop.

Earlier this month, NASBA announced that Bishop plans to retire next July 31 after helming the organization since 2012. NASBA said Tuesday it will be accepting the resumes of qualified candidates to succeed him through Jan. 5, 2024.

NASBA has set up a Selection Advisory Committee to conduct the search with members coming from various state boards of accountancy. Chairing the committee is A. Carlos Barrera of Texas, and members including J. Coalter Baker of Texas, Thuy Barron of Wisconsin, Bernita W. Demery of North Carolina, Delbert Madison of Alabama, Joseph Maffia of New York, Paula Mann of Colorado, Kevin Monroe of Tennessee, Godson Sowah of Minnesota, Laurie J. Tish of Washington State and Viki A. Windfeldt of Nevada.

As part of the selection process, NASBA plans to give consideration to its current staff as well along with other qualified candidates. Once it receives finalist recommendations from the Selection Advisory Committee and the Executive Committee, a successor will be named following approval by the NASBA Board of Directors.

"NASBA has had great success in fulfilling its mission over the past 12 years with Ken Bishop leading the organization as president and CEO," said Barrera in a statement. "His successor must also be a dynamic, forward thinking, visionary leader, who will build upon that legacy and lead NASBA into the future by maintaining the organization's relevance among State Boards of Accountancy, while preserving their regulatory role of protecting the public.".

Cover letters and resumes can be emailed to CEOApplications@NASBA.org. NASBA is encouraging interested parties to submit their credentials before the Jan. 5 deadline. Faxed resumes and calls concerning the position won't be accepted.
