Henry & Horne PLC, Tempe, announced the election of Mark F. Eberle to the position of managing director. Eberle succeeds Wendell Jones who has served as managing director since June of 1998. Jones will continue to sit on the firm’s executive committee and serve as director-in-charge of the Tempe office. Eberle joined the firm in 1972 and became a partner in 1979. In addition to serving clients, Eberle will be responsible for managing the growth of Henry & Horne and overseeing the operations of the firm. Also at Henry & Horne, Wendell G. LLC out of the New London office, has been selected to serve on the governmental accounting standards board task force on economic condition reporting. The task force consists of 12 members who have varied uses of financial statements. The participants represent different fields - the investment community, public servants, some politicians and those in all phases of governmental accounting. The task force will meet in New York City in August and plans include periodic meetings over a three- to five-year period. Recommendations of the task force will be made to the governmental accounting standards board. The task force will assess how well the governmental financial reporting model meets the needs of users when assessing a governmental entity’s financial position. ... Clifford A. Rankin and Kelley M. McIntyre, members of Harper & Whitfield PC, Farmington, have successfully completed the education and experience requirements to earn the designation of certified valuation analysts as announced by the National Association of CVAs.

Moss has been awarded the personal financial specialist designation by the AICPA. The PFS designation, establishd in 1987 by the AICPA, recognizes CPAs with considerable professional experience in financial planning. Moss met the requirements to earn the designation, including passing a technical exam covering personal financial planning topics. In addition, Moss completed over 1,000 hours of business experience during the past five years and over 75 hours of life-long learning activities. CPAs who have earned the PFS designation must be re-accredited every three years to maintain the credential.

Illinois

Elaine Weiss has been named president and CEO of the Illinois CPA Society. She will also serve as president and CEO of the Illinois CPA Foundation and CPAs for the Public Interest. Weiss succeeds Martin Rosenberg who retired after holding the position for 24 years. Prior to assuming this position, Weiss, an attorney, served as associate executive director of the American Bar Association. She also held various other management positions with the ABA including director of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession and director of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section. Weiss also served as regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In this role, she also represented the administration on policy matters and served as a liaison with governors, mayors, state and local officials, special interest groups and the public. Previously, Weiss also served as director of public affairs at Planned Parenthood Association of Chicago and as a staff attorney for the Special Commission on the Administration of Justice in Cook County. ... Robert J. Nowak recently joined Corbett, Duncan & Hubly PC, Itasca, a division of CDH Financial Group, as tax manager to head its affordable housing and construction/real estate practice area. Nowak brings eight years of construction, real estate and affordable housing experience to the firm. He consults with clients on the tax and economic aspects of real estate acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, debt workouts and restructurings, REIT exit strategies, like-kind exchanges and operations audits. Judith Wagner, of Meyners + Co. LLC, Albuquerque, has been named chair of the National Ethics Oversight Board for the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. NACVA is an organization of over 5,000 valuation professionals and is comprised of CPAs and other valuation professionals. The EOB has the direct responsibility of enforcing standards of professionalism and ethics, including member disciplinary action, evaluating member satisfaction and reviewing membership rejections.
