Lori Hanson has joined ProSoft Inc. as a district manager in their Denver office. She brings over 18 years of experience in information technology, services and software.

CONNECTICUT
Michael Melo has joined the Tax Department of Simione, Macca & Larrow LLP, Rocky Hill, as a tax consultant. His most recent experience included representing various corporate and real estate clients in litigation and mediation proceedings.

FLORIDA
Charles F. Haas, managing director of the West Palm Beach office of Rachlin Cohen & Holtz LLP, and co-director of the firm’s Governmental and Nonprofit Services Division, has been selected as a member of the Auditor Selection Task Force for the office of the auditor general of Florida. The task force will evaluate the procedures used to select independent auditors for local governments.

MAINE
Eleanor M. Baker has been named managing principal of Baker Newman & Noyes LLC, Portland. She succeeds Thomas Newman, who will maintain a position on the Management Committee, and was also named audit principal.

MARYLAND
Carl Kampel, director-in-charge of professional standards at Ellin & Tucker Chartered, Baltimore, has been appointed to the Accounting Standards Executive Committee of the AICPA.

MINNESOTA
McGladrey & Pullen LLP, Bloomington, announced three new board members: Mitch Gorochow, a partner in the Bethesda, Md., office; Jeff Johannesen, a partner in the Des Moines, Iowa, office; and Kaye Lauritsen, a partner in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, office.

NEVADA
Gary M. Johnson, managing partner of Johnson Jacobson Wilcox, Las Vegas, will receive the Nevada Society of CPAs’ Public Service Award, in recognition of his service to the community. As this year’s recipient, Johnson will be the NSCPA’s candidate for the AICPA’s National Public Service Award in 2004.

NEW JERSEY
Theodore J. Dudek has been named managing principal of Smolin Lupin & Co. PA, Fairfield. He has been with the firm since 1979, and serves as chairman of the Executive Committee. In addition, S. Scott Cobb III has joined the firm as a manager in the Business Valuation and Litigation Services Group. He brings 10 years of experience in business valuation and mergers and acquistions. ... James H. Ruitenberg, a partner with Bederson & Co., West Orange, has been named secretary of the Passaic County Chapter of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. In addition, Carl J. Woods, a manager for accounting and financial services with the firm, has been named president of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

NEW YORK
Daniel S. Kaplan has been named Metropolitan New York Area leader of the Business Risk Services Practice of Ernst & Young. He joined E&Y in 2002 as a partner, after working for Arthur Andersen.

NORTH CAROLINA
Arthur M. Winstead Jr., a partner with Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co. LLP, Greensboro, has been appointed to the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners. ... Penny Johnson, tax manager of the Sandhills Region for Dixon Odom PLLC, has earned the Certified Specialist in Estate Planning designation from the National Institute of Excellence in Professional Education, in association with the North Carolina Association of CPAs and Surgent & Associates LLC. In addition, Skip MacMillan, an organization development consultant with the firm, was one of 10 recipients of the “2 Those Who Care — Service to the Piedmont Award” given by WFMY News2 in honor of volunteer work in local communities.

NORTH DAKOTA
Ronald Johnke, a shareholder and office manager with Brady Martz & Associates PC, Grand Forks, has been appointed to a five-year term on the North Dakota State Board of Accountancy.
