FLORIDA

Berkowitz Dick Pollack & Brant CPAs and Consultants LLP, Miami, has promoted Paul Kaplan to supervisor in the audit department; and Mitchell Cutler to manager, and Jenna Longman to senior accountant, both in the business advisory services department. ... Rachlin, Cohen & Holtz LLP, Miami, announced the charitable activities of two of its employees. Richard Drath, the firm’s director of accounting and tax services, has been selected to chair the accountants division of the United Jewish Community of Broward County, which focuses on building the Jewish community through philanthropy and humanitarian activities. Manager Elizabeth Smith has been elected to serve a two-year term on the board of the Girl Scouts of Palm Glades Council Inc.

Daniel A. Wolf has joined Steinberg Advisors Ltd., Northbrook, as a partner. He will lead the tax and financial planning practices of the firm. Previously, Wolf had worked as a managing director with RSM McGladrey.

MISSISSIPPI

Smith, Turner & Reeves CPAs has admitted two new shareholders: Arvil R. Stanford in the Oxford office and Jerry M. Goolsby in the Jackson office. The firm has also promoted Ellen A. Bevon to manager in the tax division, and hired Patricia Perkins as accounting services manager, both in the Jackson office.

Ted M. Felix has been elected managing partner of Lazar Levine & Feliz LLP, New York, succeeding firm founder Melvin F. Lazar. Felix joined the firm in 1995. ... American Express Tax and Business Services announced that it has appointed the following to managing director at its New York office: James S. Bobrowski, Curtis E. Degenfelder, Joseph R. OHIO

Kentner Sellers LLP, Vandalia, has admitted Mike Wardley as a partner. Wardley joined the firm in 1992, and specializes in providing consulting and business advisory services to construction, manufacturing and distribution companies. He also chairs the firm’s Profit Improvement Group, which focuses on management training. ... SS&G Financial Services has named Annette Hoelzer co-managing partner of its Columbus office. Hoelzer, a director in the tax department, is also a member of the Tax Committee of the Ohio Society of CPAs.

PENNSYLVANIA

Stephen J. Scherf, a principal in the Philadelphia office of Parente Randolph LLC, has received the Certified Forensic Accountant designation from the American College of Forensic Examiners. Scherf specializes in forensic accounting and litigation services.

WISCONSIN

Schenck Business Solutions, Oshkosh, has promoted Stacy Braaksma to senior accountant. Braaksma recently received her CPA designation, and has experience in auditing and taxation.

TEXAS

The Houston CPA Society will hold its 17th annual charity event on Jan. 23, 2003, at the Hyatt Regency. This year's extravaganza will honor Frank M. Young, founder, president and chief executive of Theatre Under the Stars, a nonprofit musical theater company. Proceeds from the event will benefit TUTS' Humphreys School of Musical Theater, which enrolls more than 1,000 young people annually, and CPAs Helping Schools.
