The AICPA presented Scott Jackson, Timothy Keune and Leigh Salzsieder with the Greatest Potential Impact on Management Accounting Practice Award. The Institute also presented Michael Maher with the 2015 Lifetime Contribution Award. Sam Bachstein was admitted into the partnership at Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP.

The Connecticut Society of CPAs announced its 2014 “New and Young Professionals to Watch,” a select group of three up-and-comers, aged 35 and younger, who have set themselves apart as emerging leaders in the accounting profession. New and Young Professionals include; J. Tobias Freeman, a manager in CohnReznick’s Hartford office, Katherine McNair, an audit supervisor in O’Connor Davies Wethersfield office, and Evan Kalish, a tax senior at Saslow Lufkin & Buggy's Simsbury office.

The Board of Directors of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. has appointed Lauren Yost as chief operating officer. With over 20 years of leadership and hands-on management experience in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, Yost has successfully leveraged her expertise in operations, finance, and strategic planning to lead big picture visions, balanced with efficiency and practicality. Yost joins NABA from the National Recreation and Park Association where she served in a similar capacity as the vice president of operations and chief administration and strategy officer. During her nearly 10-year term at NRPA, Yost had responsibilities for strategic planning, human resources, information technology, conferences and exposition, sales, marketing, communications and magazine publication.
Joe Ciccarello, managing partner of Gray, Gray & Gray LLP has been elected to CPAmerica International’s board of directors as vice chair/chair-elect. Ciccarello is scheduled to assume chairmanship of the association of large independent CPA firms in 2016. Christina Cannellos Henchmanhas has joined MFA Cornerstone Consulting as a director in its valuation practice.

Millicent Tutlam has joined Abeles and Hoffman PC, as a senior tax associate. Prior to this role, Tutlam worked as a senior tax analyst at Emerson Process Managements. Tutlam graduated from St. Louis University with a Master of Science degree in Accounting. She also attended Lindsey Wilson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. Tutlam is a current member of the AICPA, the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, the St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers & Accountants for the Arts, the GenNext Program of the United Way of Greater St. Louis, and the Pan-African Organization for Health, Education and Research.

Janie Evans has been promoted to tax partner at Cassady Schiller. Evans, who has worked with the firm for more than seven years, becomes the firm’s seventh partner. Evans specializes in taxation, while focusing her work with the firm’s real estate and emerging and established wealth teams.
Scott Wright, who is a partner at Kernutt Stokes, was recently reappointed by the Governor for another three year term to the Oregon Board of Accountancy. He was also elected to serve as the Vice Chair of the Board for 2015.

HB&P began its nonprofit symposia series in 2002 to educate nonprofit board members, CFOs, and Executive Directors on updates in the accounting world as well as other hot industry topics. Now the most heavily and widely-attended firm event, the symposia joins nonprofit organizations with industry experts who present on current issues and trends that affect the community and aim to benefit the growth and prosperity of nonprofit organizations. The event is held twice a year in both Alexandria, VA and Baltimore, MD and represents upward of 180 nonprofits in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Registration for the spring symposia will open in early February.
