Darlene Hall has been promoted to partner at Hood & Strong LLP in the firm. Grant Thornton LLP admitted James Hughes as tax partner in the firm’s Irvine, Calif., office effective Aug. 1. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted 32 new partners and principals and promoted 21 professionals to managing director.

Eric Barr, co-managing member at Fischer Barr & Wissinger LLC, was recently published on QuickReadBuzz.com. In his article, "The Guideline Transaction Method: Problems and Solutions", Barr highlights both the benefits and limitations of the Guideline Transaction Method. The GTM is an often-used method of developing an indication of value and the GTM can provide useful insight when valuing businesses. However, Barr explains that business valuation analysts also need to be aware of the method's problems and make informed decisions regarding the reliability of valuation conclusions developed under this method. Jeff McCurry has joined Thompson Greenspon as a manager in the firm’s tax department. Debra Salbador, an associate professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been named a Martin Junior Faculty Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. Thompson Greenspon has made several new hires throughout the firm. In the tax department Erin Kidd, Phil Choe and Junyi Welch joined as individual tax supervisors, while Jessica Brown, Danielle Shaeffer and Alex Tuvin joined as staff tax accountants.
