Picnic Tax unveils client/preparer matching service

Picnic Tax has launch an online tax prep platform that aims to match clients with “their ideal tax professional” from a nationwide network of accountants.

The concept for Picnic Tax stemmed from frustration of founder Ryan McInnis with options in the prep market, including cloud solutions and the process of finding a CPA.

Picnic Tax bills itself as merging “the best aspects of traditional DIY tax software with the personal touch of working with an accountant,” and claims its platform enables customers to get through filing in 15 minutes.

Out of the more than 250 accountants who applied to be included in Picnic Tax’s network, some 100 were selected, the company said in a statement. The screening included third-party verification, a skills test and proof of an IRS accounting license.

“We’re open to Enrolled Agents as well as CPAs,” McInnis said, adding that most Picnic preparers are CPAs. “The financial arrangement is a revenue split between us and the accountants,” he said.

Price quotes for taxpayers are on the company’s site.
