Policy Center Posts Tax Reform Resource

The Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution, has established a new Web page dedicated to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform, providing a number of links to relevant research and testimony.

Tax Policy Center scholars have played a fundamental role in guiding the panel's tax reform recommendations, including testifying before the panel on return-free tax systems, fair reform for families, reforming the individual alternative minimum tax, and issues that would result from a consumption tax base.

Research links on the site address a number of impacts that the panel's recommendations may lead to, including the effects of:

  • Eliminating the deduction for state and local taxes;
  • Simplifying the family credit, including a possible expansion of the child tax credit;
  • Enhancing the "savers' credit;" and,
  • Repealing the AMT.

The page also has links to a series of conferences that it has convened to discuss these and other issues related to reforming the tax code, including forums on the estate tax, tax shelters, capital income taxes, and tax reform and the environment. The site can be accessed at www.taxpolicycenter.org/newsevents/events_trp.cfm
