Diane M. Rubin, a partner at San Francisco-based Novogradac & Co. LLP, was recently installed as chairwoman of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy for 2005-06.The election was held on Nov. 1 at NASBA's 98th Annual Meeting in Tucson, Ariz.
In her inaugural address, Rubin said that her goal was to strengthen NASBA by forging stronger bonds among state boards and fostering increased consumer awareness of what state boards do and how they protect the public. "Accounting and auditing are the enemies of corruption," she said. "They are lubricants that enable individuals and businesses to function honestly and effectively in a ... complex economy."
"We should be proud of our roles as regulators, proud that we play a part in the financial guardianship of our communities," said Rubin, adding that NASBA will strive for greater state board influence in regulatory matters.
Rubin is a member of the Auditing Standards Board and served on the California State Board of Accountancy from 1993 to 2000. She has also served as chairwoman of the board's Committee on Professional Conduct, and as a member of the Sunset Review, Uniform Accountancy Act and Enforcement Program Oversight Committees. She is a past NASBA director-at-large and Pacific regional director.
Separately, NASBA's UAA Committee is expected to submit its final draft to NASBA and the AICPA leadership shortly.
