Sage Gets New Research VP

Sage Software has named former Oracle executive Alok Tyagi as its new vice president of research and development for the company’s MAS, BusinessWorks and PFW product lines.Tyagi, who stepped into the position on Jan. 2, will be responsible for product engineering and research and development for each of the three product lines. He will report to the senior vice president and general manager for mid-market accounting solutions, Himanshu Palsule.

“Sage has a very successful history with products that are widely recognized and that have huge installed bases,” Tyagi said, via e-mail. “Other companies find it extremely hard, if not impossible to succeed in the SMB market, while at Sage, how to compete and win in the SMB space is in the DNA of the company.”

Tyagi said that getting to know the organization’s employees, stakeholders and business partners are one of his first priorities in the new position. He also said he plans to ensure the company delivers on its commitments to release the new versions of products such as Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 500.

Tyagi has more than 17 years of product development experience and was most recently employed as senior development director at Oracle, where he managed mid-enterprise CRM and ERP products.

Separately, Sage announced two new partnerships -- with Palo Alto Software and Real Estate Promoter.

Through the Palo Alto partnership, businesses can purchase Palo Alto’s Business Plan Pro 2007 or Marketing Plan Pro 2007 and receive discounts and free offers for both Peachtree and ACT! products.
