SAP rolls out new agents

SAP announced new specialized AI Joule Agents (named for its generative AI copilot Joule) that handle travel and expense processes as well as core finance functions.

One is a Receipt Analysis Agent for SAP's ExpenseIt solution. The Receipt Analysis Agent can infer missing receipt information—such as location, vendor or expense type—by analyzing surrounding contextual clues and user-specific data. By leveraging user history, the new agent can also predict expense types with higher accuracy, refining the process as it learns from previous submissions. SAP said the agent is rolling out now through the end of 2025.

Another is the Booking Agent for SAP's Concur travel solution. It will allow people to use natural language queries to make travel arrangements (e.g. "Book me a flight to Paris Tuesday morning") and generate compliant itineraries instantly. Options provided will be matched to the traveler's specific preferences while staying within company rules. It will also surface pricing breakdowns, travel class justifications and spend estimates in real time. It is available generally now.

SAP also previewed its Expense Report Validation Agent for Concur Expense, which will offer guided report completion, walking users through the final steps of expense report submission, flagging missing or incomplete entries and prompting for quick resolution. It will also explain alerts and compliance issues in plain language and help users resolve them directly within the report. The solution also sports the ability to proactively detect common errors and missing data, prompting users to confirm or correct entries, to boost first-pass approval rates and reduce rework. This agent is expected to be released early in 2026.

The company also mentioned a meeting location planner agent scheduled for release in 2026 that will provide smart location optimization that autonomously analyzes attendee locations, flight options, cost, travel time and sustainability to recommend the most efficient meeting city. It will also apply company-specific travel policies to ensure hotel and flight recommendations meet budget, class of service, and preferred supplier rules; compare multiple city options and present tradeoffs in cost and time; support tailored group preferences, custom inputs and end-to-end meeting setup, going beyond location suggestion to recommend compliant hotels and generate budget estimates for faster approvals and bookings.

For finance professionals, SAP also announced a Cash Management Agent that will analyze daily bank statements and act to automate reconciliation tasks, identify potential cash shortages and surpluses, and suggest optimizations. A new International Trade Classification Agent examines product characteristics and trade regulations and acts to classify goods for international shipping, recommending customs tariff numbers and commodity codes. Both solutions are expected to be generally available in 2026, with the Trade Classification Agent expected to enter beta testing in December.

SAP also announced the availability of an AI-generated receipt checker for SAP Concur that  inspects receipt images, including metadata, to identify receipts likely created by AI or online generators, and flags them for review. There is also a new pre-spend planner that uses generative AI to help users estimate their budget needs based on their travel plans and company policies, such as per diems and airfare class restrictions. The new tool will also keep travelers informed about relevant travel advisories, including airport strikes and natural disasters, to prepare them for their journeys.

General availability for these features is expected in Q4.
