Singing CPA Steven Zelin merges with Newman & Cohen

Steven Zelin, a New York City-based CPA who performs music as the “Singing CPA,” is merging his firm, Steven Zelin CPA LLC, with Newman & Cohen, CPA, P.C., effective Thursday.

The combined firm will be located at Zelin’s current address and will be called Zelin & Associates CPA LLC. The firm will provide expanded auditing and tax services to private businesses, not-for-profits and individuals.

Zelin’s firm has 10 people, including two administrative staffers. Newman & Cohen has a total of six people, including partners Ed Newman and Mark Cohen. “I’ll have to give them some singing lessons,” said Zelin. He will be managing member of the combined firm, while Newman and Cohen will be principals.

Zelin founded his firm in 2008. It is on the New York State Comptroller’s recommended list of accounting firms. “Our specialty is in working closely with our clients to understand the nature of their businesses, organizations, and individual tax requirements, helping to customize a plan based on their needs and which will accomplish their goals,” said Zelin.

Newman & Cohen, CPA, P.C. is a 40-year-old firm that provides accounting, auditing, tax planning and preparation, financial services, peer review and insurance.

Financial terms of the deal and revenue figures were not disclosed.

Zelin writes and performs songs, often with a tax-related theme. His songs have been played on satellite radio and local broadcast radio stations. He annually sings on the steps of the main New York City post office on tax day. His songs can be found at www.theSingingCPA.com.
