Smith + Howard adds Horton, Lee & Burnett

Top 100 Firm Smith + Howard acquired Horton, Lee & Burnett, an accounting and consulting firm based in Birmingham, Alabama, effective Nov. 26, 2024.

The deal is Smith + Howard's entry into Alabama, expanding its geographic footprint in the Southeast and extending its services to the region. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Horton, Lee & Burnett was founded in 1967 and offers accounting, auditing, tax and advisory services to real estate developers, health care providers, manufacturers, nonprofit organizations and automotive dealerships.

Smith + Howard ranked No. 85 on Accounting Today's Top 100 Firms list, with $74 million in revenue. The firm is based in Atlanta and has four offices, 30 partners and 265 employees. It was among the first accounting firms to take on private equity funding, from Broad Sky Partners, in November 2022. It recently launched two new tax practices: Site Selection + Incentives, and State and Local Income Tax Consulting.

"Horton, Lee & Burnett's exceptional team, client relationships and values well align with ours, and together we'll be able to provide even greater value to the businesses and individuals we serve."

The firm received private equity funding in 2022 from Broad Sky Partners in New York.
