Survey Confirms Value of Ethics, Compliance Officers

Salary.com and the Ethics Officer Association revealed the results of a recent survey gauging compensation earned by individuals holding ethics and compliance officer titles.

According to the "2005 EOA Survey of Ethics & Compliance Officer Jobs," total compensation for top ethics and compliance officer jobs is approaching $750,000. A statement from the two groups said that more than 100 of the largest companies in the world participated in the survey, and two thirds of the respondents had annual revenues of more than $10 billion.

Given the increasing importance being placed on corporate ethics and compliance, Salary.com's analysis of the survey said that top ethics executives are receiving salaries comparable to a chief information officer, as well as significant amounts of long-term incentives such as stock options.

The survey also notes that more than three quarters of global ethics and compliance executives possess a law or master's degree. The full survey can be ordered through the EOA Web site at www.eoa.org.
