About 75 percent of the 1,300 respondents participating in the inaugural "State of the Nonprofit Industry" poll from nonprofit software maker Blackbaud Inc. indicated a rise in demand for the services they provide.

Meanwhile, more than half (57 percent) reported growth in donations from individuals -- among the single largest sources of contributions made each year.

However, the poll results showed that challenges in the NFP sector still remain, with more than two thirds of those surveyed (68 percent) reporting that raising money to fund services remains a top management concern, while indicating that expanding those services and developing effective boards to lead their organizations were, and are, critical needs.
