LINDA STIFF RETIRES FROM IRS

Washington, D.C - Linda Stiff, the former acting commissioner of the IRS, plans to retire this fall. Stiff, who filled in at the IRS's top post for seven months after Mark Everson left for the American Red Cross, is currently deputy commissioner for services and enforcement. She has been with the IRS for 30 years.

Her replacement as enforcement chief will be Mark Miller, who is currently in charge of the IRS's Large and Mid-size Business Division. Miller also was in charge of the Tax-Exempt/Government Entities Division from 1999 to 2004.

IRS SITE HIGHLIGHTS EDUCATION TAX BREAKS

Washington, D.C. - The Internal Revenue Service has opened a new section of its Web site dedicated to various back-to-school tax breaks for college savings and tuition credits. The new Tax Benefits for Education section on IRS.gov includes tips for taking advantage of long-standing education deductions and credits, as well as a special section highlighting Section 529 plans and frequently asked questions. The section also features key changes that will be in effect during 2009 and 2010 from the Recovery Act.

Riverwoods, Ill. - CCH has expanded its lineup of global tax products with Worldwide Tax Rates and Answers: Individuals, an online tax compliance and research service that covers the European Union.
