SAGE UNVEILS LATEST FAS SOFTWARE UPDATE: Sage Software, a provider of accounting and financial management software, has released the latest update for Sage FAS, its fixed assets solution. Sage FAS 2006.1 is a free online update available for Sage FAS 50, FAS 100 and FAS 500 customers with FAS SupportPlus contracts. Adjustments to Sage FAS bring into account the new deduction under Section 179B from the Jobs Creation Act of 2004, and new deductions under 179C and D from the Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005. Sage FAS 2006.1 also contains updated Investment Tax Credit options, IRS Form 4797 - Sales of Business Property, and IRS Form 4562 - Depreciation and Amortization, for the 2005 tax year.The upgrade can be downloaded at www.sagefas.com/update.

In related news, Sage has made available ACT! by Sage Premium for Web 2006, a contact and customer service relationship manager solution for small and midsized businesses.

The newest version of ACT! by Sage includes customizable opportunity fields, custom user permissions, contact access settings and a scheduled automatic database. The 2006 edition can be installed directly onto a company server, eliminating the need for individual employee installation.

Pricing for a licensing model begins at $399.99, and $299.95 for an upgrade.

SYMANTEC ACQUIRES IMLOGIC: Security software, appliance and services provider Symantec Corp. reached a definitive agreement to acquire IMlogic Inc., a software developer for enterprise instant messaging headquartered in Waltham, Mass. The acquisition is expected to close after receiving customary regulatory approvals.

Symantec and IMlogic had partnered on many occasions before the acquisition to deliver security tools for IM services against malware and spam threats. Symantec's Enterprise Vault, an e-mail and data-archiving product, has integrated with IMlogic's IM Manager, a messaging archiving solution, since 2002. The two companies also performed research on the growth of IM and peer-to-peer security levels over the Web.

Following the acquisition, IMlogic's threat detection and remediation features will be integrated into Symantec's early warning and response system. There will also be expanded integration between Enterprise Vault and IM Manager.

PAYCYCLE BURNISHES 2006 PAYROLL SERVICE: PayCycle, an on-demand payroll service provider, unveiled a number of enhancements to its 2006 payroll service, which emphasizes branding, paperless tax filing and paystub viewing access. The new upgrades allow accountants to brand each page of the Web sites that their clients use to view their respective payrolls. E-mail reminders about payroll services such as pay day, and when to pay taxes and file forms, can also be branded with the accountant's firm name or logo.

Two new paperless features involve e-filing, where accountants or their clients filing state taxes in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Oregon can do so electronically, and pay stub retrieval, where employees of clients can access their paystubs online. A new set-up wizard uses pre-filled screens and automatically customizes the set-up path for each client according to employment history and prior payroll methods. ULTRATAX CS NOW OFFERS CAPITAL GAIN TRANSACTION IMPORTING: Creative Solutions, a Thomson business, said that its UltraTax CS product now offers importing of capital gain transactions from TradeAccountant into UltraTax 1040's Schedule D and associated sub-schedules.

The company said that the enhancement will help streamline tax reporting and record maintenance for accountants with clients who are active traders.

TradeAccountant offers traders a tool for position tracking and trade management, and provides the ability for users to accurately report capital gains results for tax purposes. PROPHIX ATTAINS MS GOLD STATUS: Prophix Software Inc., a provider of data analysis solutions, said that it has attained Gold Certified status in the Microsoft Partner Program with a competency in ISV/Software Solutions. "This allows us to clearly promote our expertise with Microsoft to our customers," said Paul Barber, president of Prophix Software.
