AICPA INTRODUCES DIVERSITY NEWSLETTER

The American Institute of CPAs is offering a new, free newsletter called Inclusion Solutions. Exploring diversity and inclusion initiatives and best practices in the business community and accounting profession, the newsletter's first issue was distributed in mid-July.

While more than one third of the U.S. population belongs to a minority group, only 10 percent identify as such in the accounting profession, institute president and CEO Barry Melancon highlighted in his introduction."We need to get in front of this demographic shift," he stated. "It is the only way we'll be able to create the opportunities that attract the best and brightest graduates from the largest talent pool to accounting careers."

MOVE PROJECT NAMES BEST FIRMS FOR WOMEN

The Accounting MOVE Project recently named both the 2014 Best Public Accounting Firms for Women and the Best Public Accounting Firms for Leadership Equity. Established in 2010 as a joint project of the American Society of Women Accountants and the American Woman's Society of CPAs, the MOVE Project ranks participating firms on the range, depth and success of their programs and workplace cultures.

The Best Firms are among the 50 that participated in the 2014 Accounting MOVE Project.

The MOVE methodology is based on four factors -- money, opportunity, vital supports for work/life and entrepreneurship -- which are known to advance women in the workplace.

The Best Firms for Women had at least 40 employees, and at least 38 percent of their top leaders were women.
