Trio of Practitioners Merge in Connecticut

A new partnership in New Milford, Conn., has been doing business as Dumas Estate and Tax Management since the start of 2007.

A trio of CPAs -- Kevin Dumas, Cheryl Bakewell and Scott Mulhare -- officially became partners on Jan. 1. Founding partner Dumas opened a solo practice in the town more than 20 years ago, and has worked with Mulhare for the past five years. Prior to the merger, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, Bakewell operated her own solo practice.

The firm also employs a fourth CPA, a handful of full-time employees and two seasonal workers. According to the New Milford Spectrum, the firm handles in the neighborhood of 1,500 individual tax returns annually, in addition to overseeing more than 200 business clients -- though all of the partners stressed their continued focus on providing personal service. In recent years, Dumas told the paper that his business had started to handle an increasing amount of estate and trust tax work, often in partnership with law firms.

Dumas and Bakewell bring corporate, partnership and individual taxation expertise to the firm, while Bakewell also has expertise in small-business consulting, corporation and partnership tax preparation and college-planning. Mulhare has probate, trust and estate tax expertise.
