UHY merges in PKK in Michigan

UHY LLP, a Top 100 Firm based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, has expanded its presence in Ann Arbor by adding Pietrasiuk, Kelley & Kelley P.C.

UHY opened its own office in Ann Arbor in 2017, and it has doubled in size since that time. Ann Arbor represents a major market for the firm. The Ann Arbor office had only a handful of employees a few years ago, but now more than 30 professionals work in that office. UHY has more than 400 employees across the state.

UHY and other regional firms have been growing in the past year despite the pandemic. The continued wave of mergers and acquisitions in the accounting profession over the years is showing no signs of stopping. The expansion in Ann Arbor also helps UHY compete for fresh talent among the young accountants graduating from the University of Michigan.

“Expanding in Ann Arbor is a strategic move for our firm,” said Tom Callan, managing director of UHY’s Great Lakes region, in a statement last month. “It improves campus recruiting in the area and our ability to serve clients. Adding staff to the Ann Arbor office will help serve our growing client base in Washtenaw County and beyond.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. UHY ranked 31st on Accounting Today’s 2020 list of the Top 100 Firms. The Great Lakes region, where the Ann Arbor office is located, has 420 employees, earning approximately $96 million in revenue, according to UHY spokesperson Chris Clark. The total number of employees across the entire firm, including all regions, is nearing 1,000 people, and firmwide revenue is about $180 million.

Jerry Grady, the office managing partner of the Ann Arbor practice, has seen exponential, despite the pandemic. He and his team have been heavily involved in the local community, and with campus recruiting at the area’s major universities.

PKK managing director Todd Kelley has been leading the firm and has also been part of the Ann Arbor community for over 30 years. “We are thrilled to be part of the UHY team,” Kelley said in a statement. “UHY’s dynamic organization will allow us to provide expanded services to our clients and professional growth opportunities for our staff.”

Early last year, prior to the pandemic, UHY expanded in Michigan by acquiring Stewart, Beauvais & Whipple in Port Huron, the firm’s fifth location in the state.
