VSCPA awards over $57K in 2019 scholarships

The Virginia Society of CPAs and its Educational Foundation announced their college scholarship recipients for the 2019–2020 academic year. A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Educational Foundation looks to promote "business and accounting education, rewarding academic excellence and encouraging students to pursue promising careers as [CPAs]."

The foundation awarded $57,250 in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral scholarships to 24 accounting college students across Virginia. Scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted in an accounting program at a Virginia college or university, as well as demonstrate top academic performance, submit an entry essay and faculty recommendations, and demonstrate community or extracurricular service.

The 2019–2020 scholarship recipients are:

VSCPA Past President's/Chair Scholarship ($2,000)

  • Marlena Zaleski - Virginia Tech

VSCPA Graduate Scholarship ($2,000 each)

  • Zachary Beigel - University of Virginia
  • Aaron Rosedale - James Madison University
  • Emily Steele - The College of William and Mary

VSCPA PhD Scholarship ($2,000 each)

  • Jonathan Truelson - Virginia Tech

VSCPA Minority Scholarship ($1,500$2,000)

  • Carissa Malone - Virginia Tech
  • Tamera Williams - Christopher Newport University

VSCPA Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,500)

  • Samuel Main - Randolph-Macon College

CST Group Scholarship ($3,000)

  • Emily Coppa - University of Virginia

Dixon Hughes Goodman Scholarship ($2,500 each)

  • Kathryn Cardenas - University of Virginia
  • Lisa Edwards - James Madison University

H. Burton Bates Jr. Scholarship ($2,250)

  • Willow Pedersen - Virginia Tech

Kearney & Company Scholarship ($2,500 each)

  • Genevieve Coan - Virginia Tech
  • Sarah Grigg - George Mason University

Michael E. Mares Scholarship ($2,250 each)

  • Colleen Connolly - Randolph-Macon College
  • April Meadows - Old Dominion University

MJW Scholarship ($2,250 each)

Thomas M. Berry Jr. Scholarship ($3,000 each)
