DiCicco, Gulman & Co. Gets World Series Trophy Visit

The hard-working CPAs at DiCicco, Gulman & Co. got a pleasant break from their tax season load when the Boston Red Sox World Series trophies were delivered to the Massachusetts-based firm's offices. Employees and their family members got a chance to pose with the trophies.  Brown Smith Wallace Promotes Jan Beckmann Brown Smith Wallace has promoted Jan Beckmann (pictured) to manager in the Missouri accounting firm's risk management practice. She has been working since early 2007 at the firm jumpstarting data analysis services in BSW's risk services practice area. Beckmann lives in St. Louis with her husband and two children. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has posted its five-year strategic plan online. Among the goals is reducing the time to post inspection reports for audit firms to seven months in 2009. This year, the goal is eight months for annual reports and nine months for triennial reports.

IRS Advisory Committee Wants Tax Pros

The Internal Revenue Service is looking for a few good tax preparers to apply for its Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee. Committee members offer recommendations on information reporting and administration issues to IRS leaders and report to the IRS commissioner at a public meeting in the fall. The committee includes up to 35 members who serve three-year terms and come from diverse backgrounds, including taxpayers, tax professionals and others. Nominations are currently being accepted for up to six appointments that begin in January 2009. The deadline for applying is May 30. Private Sector Employment Rises 8,000 in March

The U.S. added 8,000 jobs in the private sector in March, according to a report by payroll giant ADP. The biggest increase again came from small businesses, which added 55,000 jobs. Midsized businesses added 5,000 jobs, but large businesses lost 52,000 jobs.

Frank S. Froio Makes Partner at Beard Miller

Beard Miller Co. LLP has named Frank S. Froio as a partner in the firm's audit and accounting services group. Froio has more than 12 years of experience in accounting. He was previously senior manager and leader of the Reading, Pa.-based firm's information technology audit group, and will remain in charge of the group. Gary L. Curtis Named M&A Partner at Haskell & White Haskell & White has expanded the mergers & acquisitions practice in its Irvine, Calif., office with the addition of Gary L. Curtis as partner. Curtis has more than 20 years of experience at Big Four accounting firms. He will assist clients through specialized M&A transactions and provide due diligence, structuring and post-transactional tax services. (more)
