Actor Wesley Snipes has been released from prison after serving nearly two and a half years in prison for failing to file tax returns.

Snipes was convicted in 2008 of three misdemeanor counts for failing to file tax returns for 1999, 2000 and 2001 and sentenced to three years in prison. He had appealed his conviction all the way to the Supreme Court, which declined to hear the case (see Supreme Court Rejects Wesley Snipes Appeal). He began serving his sentence in December 2010 in one of the most high-profile tax protestor cases in recent years.
