AICPA presents Personal Financial Planning Service Award

The American Institute of CPAs has awarded the 2013 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award to Ted Sarenski, president and CEO of Blue Ocean Strategic Capital in Syracuse, N.Y.

The AICPA bestows the award, which was presented to Sarenski Tuesday at the AICPA Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference in Las Vegas, to a member volunteer who contributes significantly to the advancement of personal financial planning as a practice discipline.

“Through tireless dedication and service, Ted has strengthened the CPA financial planning profession and elevated the knowledge of his peers across the country,” said Jeannette Koger, vice president of member specialization and credentialing at the AICPA, in a statement. "He exemplifies the best qualities of a CPA financial planner.”

Sarenski chairs the personal financial planning division’s elder planning task force and has served on the PFP division’s executive committee and on the National CPA financial literacy commission. He also wrote the “CPA’s Guide to Social Security Planning,” was a contributor to the PFP division’s consumer guide to end-of-life planning, and speaks at conferences on Social Security, retirement planning and elder planning.

Sarenski, who holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from the State University of New York in Binghamton, also contributes annually to a workshop to help CPAs add personal financial planning services to their practices.
