Becker Professional Education announces more than $225K in 2016 scholarships

Becker Professional Education, the global leader in professional education and a part of DeVry Education Group, today announced the availability of more than $225,000 in scholarship funds, part of its annual Newton D. Becker Scholarship Program. Through the program, more than 120 CPA's candidates will receive full or partial scholarships for Becker’s CPA Exam Review course.

Now in its fourth year, the scholarship program honors Newton D. Becker, who passed away in 2012. Newton founded Becker Professional Education in 1957 and pioneered a new approach for preparing candidates for the CPA Exam. The program, which has now awarded more than $750,000 in financial assistance, was created to continue his legacy by helping students and professionals earning the CPA credential and furthering their accounting careers.

Holly Patterson Doherty, recipient of a full scholarship in 2015, said in a statement, “The Newton D. Becker Scholarship allowed me to focus completely on passing the CPA Exam, positioning me to springboard into a new career as a 49-year-old single mom.”

“For me, passing the exam and achieving the CPA credential is the foundation on which I plan to build my accounting career,” stated Cami Townsend, another 2015 scholarship recipient.

To qualify, applicants must meet the requirements to sit for the CPA Exam at the time of enrollment, demonstrate financial need and, through a personal statement, exhibit traits important to Newton: high moral character, strong leadership qualities and commitment to community service.

Scholarship applications are due Feb. 1, 2016, and recipients will be notified Feb. 26, 2016. For additional information and to apply, visit Becker's site here. Scholarships will be awarded Feb. 26, 2016 through June 30, 2016.
