Deloitte renews support of City Year as 'National Strategy and Innovation Sponsor'

City Year and Deloitte announced last week that Deloitte is renewing its title as City Year's "National Strategy and Innovation Sponsor" for 2016, with a total investment of more than$1.1 millionin cash and pro-bono consulting services.

Deloitte has previously invested$8.1 millionin cash and pro-bono consulting services in City Year since 2001.

"Deloitte strengthens City Year's capacity by providing indispensable professional experience and skills, financial resources, and strategic counsel," stated Jim Balfanz, president of City Year. "The relationship enables City Year to maximize our impact in schools by helping us to navigate complex strategic and operational challenges, enhancing our work with both students and City Year AmeriCorps members across the country and the globe."

City Year AmeriCorps members serve full-time in schools across 27 US cities and two affiliates abroad, providing students with tutoring and in-class support, as well as organizing school-wide initiatives to increase academic achievement and student engagement. Deloitte's consulting has been a significant force supporting the development of City Year's long-term impact strategy, strategic roadmap, implementation plans, and staffing structures. Deloitte consultants have helped address key strategic and operational challenges related to City Year's model.

More than 150 Deloitte professionals mentor City Year AmeriCorps members annually and 17 Deloitte professionals currently serve as board members across the City Year network. Deloitte professionals offer their skills to City Year AmeriCorps members and staff through a mentorship program and by facilitating career development workshops for AmeriCorps members and offering professional development trainings for City Year staff. This year Deloitte will be expanding its direct engagement with students with workshops designed to help middle school students set goals and prepare for the transition to high school.
