Halloween Costumes for Accountants

Small business owners would like to see their accountants dress up as either Lady Gaga or a calculator this Halloween, according to a new survey.

Intuit’s Accounting Professionals Division recently surveyed 1,000 small business owners and asked them how they would like their accountant to dress up this Halloween. The answers “calculator” and “Lady Gaga” tied for first place, each with 32 percent of the votes. (Though I suspect a lot more people will be dressing up as Lady Gaga than as a calculator this year.) “Superhero” came in third with 21 percent of the vote in the survey and “pumpkin” with 14 percent of the vote.

If you do decide to dress up as a pumpkin this year, bear in mind that the state of Idaho considers pumpkins to be taxable goods, even if they’re sold at a roadside stand by children (see Tax Official Threatens to Shut Down Kids’ Pumpkin Stand). So it's probably safer and cheaper to dress up in some other costume.

Happy Halloween, trick or treat, or Gaga ooh-la-la!
