In an effort to increase minority participation in the accounting profession, The Foundation for Accounting Education of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants is currently accepting applications for its COAP program.

What’s the COAP program? It’s the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession program that is offered at 11 New York state colleges during late June and early July – to try to boost the population of minorities in accounting. Only high school juniors (class of 2011) are eligible to participate.

Students will take part in activities such as touring accounting firms, learning how to start their own businesses, practicing interview skills and going to sports games. Sessions are led by CPAs and other business professionals.

COAP programs will be taking place at the following campuses across New York state:
SUNY Buffalo (June 27 to July 1), St. John’s University (July 7 to July 11), Hofstra University (June 26 to June 30), Pace University (June 27 to July 1), SUNY at Albany (June 28 to July 1), York College (June 26 to July 1), Long Island University (June 27 to July 2) LeMoyne College (dates TBD), SUNY Brockport (dates TBD), Westchester Community College (June 28 to July 1) and SUNY New Paltz (June 28 to July 1).
