Tax practitioners who frequently handle federal tax matters can stay up-to-date while hearing from America’s leading tax experts during the 74th Institute on Federal Taxation (IFT), presented by the NYU School of Professional Studies.

The week-long conferences will be offered on both coasts: October 25-30 at the Grand Hyatt New York and November 15-20 at The Fairmont San Francisco. The conferences will bring together tax practitioners in the specializations of finance, law, and government to ground themselves in new regulations in federal taxation, to exchange ideas, and to stay current on the latest trends and developments. Participants can choose to attend any number of days, or the entire week, at either the New York or California locations.

The Institute is designed for attorneys who are both general tax practitioners and specialists, accountants, corporate treasury and compliance executives, tax managers, and financial planners, who seek expert discussion on the latest technical, legislative, and planning developments in the field.

Nationally-recognized tax authorities will guide attendees through in-depth general sessions and panel discussions that cover the most advanced tax issues, offering participants a clear understanding of the key issues affecting their clients or businesses, and present planning strategies that can be immediately used in practice.

Participants also can obtain credit for continuing education, along with the tools and the tactics needed to help save their clients' tax dollars and provide them with better service.

Among the highlights are sessions on:

  • From the Experts: IRS Representation Tools, Techniques, and Defensive Strategies – Civil and Criminal Tax Update
  • Update on Section 409A
  • Mergers and Acquisitions Involving S Corporations
  • Hot Corporate Deals
  • Maximizing Capital Gains in Real Estate Transactions
  • TEFRA Partnership Audit Procedures
  • Tax Reporting for Cross-Border Transactions
  • Transfer Tax vs. Income Tax Basis Issues
  • Ethical Issues for Tax Practitioners: Good Tax Planning, Aggressive Tax Advice, or Criminal Tax Evasion

This year, the conference closes with The Arthur D. Sederbaum Memorial Lecture, during which panelists will analyze and discuss Family Limited Partnerships and Sophisticated Planning Techniques in the Current Environment.
