PwC Vice Chair Calls for More Diversity

PricewaterhouseCoopers vice chairman Greg Garrison gave a keynote address at the Ascend National Convention in New York this week in which he called on organizations to better manage their diversity efforts.

Ascend, a leadership organization of pan-Asian professionals in the accounting and finance industries, celebrated its third annual convention with luminaries from a number of the major firms, including PwC, Ernst & Young and Deloitte, whose CEO, Barry Salzberg, also delivered a keynote address.

Garrison’s keynote spotlighted the need for organizations to improve their diversity efforts by paying attention to the head, heart and wallet. “Successful leaders approach diversity using all three lenses,” he said. “Looking through these lenses, leaders must act upon what they see and anticipate what is to come to successfully shape the talent that will drive business performance.”

More firms will hopefully be looking to ramp up their hiring in the year ahead as the country slowly emerges from the economic crisis of recent years. As they do they will need to pay more attention to their diversity efforts in order to attract and service an increasingly diverse client base and provide a wider perspective for their own future growth.
