Accounting firms Cowan, Gunteski & Co. and Citrin Cooperman are among the best places to work in New Jersey, according to NJBiz magazine.

This is the fifth consecutive year Cowan, Gunteski & Co. participated and was selected as one of the best small/medium-sized firms by the Best Places to Work program, which this year includes 29 companies with 15 to 249 employees.

Citrin Cooperman followed up two years of placement in that category, including last year’s No. 12 ranking, with a move this year to join 41 firms honored in the other, large company (250-plus employees) group.

NJBiz’s Best Places to Work was created in 2005 and involves a two-part process.

To qualify, companies with at least 15 employees and a New Jersey facility submitted information about workplace policies and practices last December, which counted toward 25 percent of the total evaluation score. In the second stage, employee experience was measured through a survey and counted for the final 75 percent. The Best Companies group compiled the data and selected the final companies.

“Our selection as one of the best small/medium firms to work for in New Jersey is truly a point of pride for our firm,” said Donald Cowan, Cowan, Gunteski & Co.’s co-founder and managing director, in a statement. “It reflects our continued commitment to the professional and personal growth and happy work/life balance of our employees, and the recognition of all contributions that make Cowan, Gunteski & Co. a great place to work.”

“Our employees and professionals are among the best, brightest and most dedicated in the accounting industry, and work extremely hard on behalf of the clients they serve,” said Ed Horton, co-partner in charge of Citrin Cooperman’s New Jersey office with Alex Serrano. “Creating an environment in which they can grow and continue to be a valued part of the Citrin Cooperman family is a responsibility that management takes seriously.”

The final ranking of all 70 companies will be revealed at an awards dinner and ceremony April 26.
