WithumSmith+Brown partnered with the University of Central Florida in Orlando to establish a new learning lab, which welcomed its first students after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. KPMG opened the KPMG Ignition Center — Chicago, the firm’s seventh and largest center dedicated to innovation. The 30,000-square-foot Ignition Center, located on the 68th floor of the Aon Center, focuses KPMG’s capabilities across signal sensing, design thinking, data and analytics, artificial intelligence, strategy, business process and technology.

MASSACHUSETTS

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs hosted “The Next Step” workshop at PwC’s Boston office March 27 for 70 college students across the state, previewing what can be expected from a future career in accounting. The annual workshop featured panel discussions on different career paths and job expectations, as well as smaller group discussions with HR professionals and recruiters.

Sax, Clifton, is holding a complimentary educational event, “A New Effectiveness Movement for Nonprofits: Obtaining & Responding to Beneficiary Feedback,” hosted by the firm’s not-for-profit practice. The New Jersey Society of CPAs, Roseland, opened nominations for the NJCPA Ovation Awards, honoring professionals who advance the accounting profession. NEW MEXICO

REDW, Albuquerque, announced it has become an exclusive business partner of the recently launched professional soccer team New Mexico United, providing the United Soccer League team with tax and accounting services. The firm will also serve as a business advisor to the franchise as it establishes its brand and expands operations, possibly including a new stadium.

The American Institute of CPAs, New York, announced the 110 winners of the 2018 Elijah Watt Sells Award, bestowed to CPA candidates who obtain a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, pass all four sections on their first attempt, and have completed testing in 2018.
