ICPAS hosts internship prep program reunion

The Illinois CPA Society recently hosted more than 40 graduates of its Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program on July 11, 2019, in Chicago.

Funded by donations to the Mary T. Washington Wylie Opportunity Fund, the program honors the legacy of Washington, the first African-American woman CPA in the country, by advancing diversity in the profession and providing opportunities for minority accounting students to succeed. The annual program provides students with access to training, resources and mentors, along with interviews for paid accounting internships upon the program's completion.

The Illinois CPA Society also announced that it will be inviting program graduates back on Aug. 15, 2019, for a new program — the Mary T. Washington Wylie Advancing Alumni Conference. The free event will help graduates:

  • Discover new ways to get, keep and grow in a job;
  • Find their place, make their voices heard and fine-tune their communication skills; and,
  • Build trust, credibility, and respect in their relationships.
