PTIN Registration System Improved

The Internal Revenue Service has made a series of enhancements to its Preparer Tax Identification Number system.

The changes include a new look and feel, including an enhanced log-in page, pop-up help messages, and the consolidation of the main menu and the PTIN menu.

In addition, the IRS has improved the ability to review and edit a summary of all the information before submitting, redesigned the address entry screen (including a “copy from” feature and a Zip Code lookup feature), and provided improved instructions for the required format in numerical fields, including an immediate error message for the wrong format.

Streamlined data entry for the supervisor PTIN and professional credential data round out the improvements. More enhancements are planned when the PTIN renewal season begins in mid-October.
