IRS Videos Help Troubleshoot PTIN Renewal, RTRP Exam

 The IRS has launched a series of videos to help preparers register for Preparer Tax Identification Numbers and prepare for the Registered Tax Return Preparer test.

All paid federal tax return preparers must register with the IRS and have a PTIN, as must all Enrolled Agents.

The troubleshooting page includes videos on how to create and account and apply for a PTIN, and addresses log-in issues such as forgotten passwords and password criteria and what a preparer can do if they changed e-mail accounts since creating their PTIN account. The page also includes a link to FAQ phone numbers regarding the registration processs.

The exam

The IRS has also posted an "overview" Youtube vdeo to help preparers ready themselves for the RTRP exam.

The video details a pre-test checklist, a list of study materials, information on scheduling a test, what to expect at the test site, sample questions, forms and schedules that "could be" referenced on the exam, test-prep courses from IRS-approved continuing education providers, test center locations, and other test logistics.
