Sharpton Group Renames and Focuses on Consulting

The leader of a prominent African American CPA firm in Miami has decided to rename his firm and sharpen his focus on consulting services.

Darryl K. Sharpton, CPA, ABV, of Sharpton, Brunson & Company, P.A., in Miami, has renamed the 30-year-old firm as the Sharpton Group, P.A., following the recent departure of former member Anthony Brunson.

As president and CEO, Sharpton is shifting the firm’s focus away from traditional accounting services and toward financial and economic consulting for large corporations and infrastructure projects amidst the current boom in South Florida. TSG’s expertise spans a number of major sectors driving Florida’s economy, including real estate, government, transportation, infrastructure, nonprofits and health care.

Sharpton and his team plan to focus on providing economic impact analyses, business valuations and project management for large-scale construction projects in South Florida. His firm is among the top accounting and consulting firms in South Florida, having worked with many of the Sunshine State’s largest companies and organizations. Past clients have included the Florida Department of Transportation, Hyatt Hotels, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (Tri-Rail), the law firm Bilzin Sumberg and others.

“With more investment pouring into South Florida than any other metropolitan region in the U.S., there is a growing need for trusted oversight in the areas of construction, budget management and operations,” Sharpton said in a statement. “We believe there is a need for locally-based, independent consulting firms that understand our regional economy and the local political landscape and enjoy strong relationships in the community. We are filling that void.”

Sharpton is also involved in civic activities, serving as chair of the Public Health Trust, where he helped lead the turnaround of the Jackson Health System, and as a member of the Orange Bowl Committee.

While TSG will emphasize consulting work, the firm will continue providing traditional accounting services, such as audit and operational reviews.  The firm’s audit practice will remain one of its largest business lines under the leadership of audit director Kevin Adderley, CPA, who is a 29-year accounting veteran. Adderley has helped the firm provide audit and attestation services for government entities and nonprofits.
