BER Chartered Accountants, Malabo, has joined global accountancy network HLB International as a member firm.

GEORGIA

Bennett Thrasher, Atlanta, relaunched its website in conjunction with its brand refresh that includes a simplified “BT” logo. The firm also recently moved into a new office space at Riverwood 200 in the Cumberland-Galleria district. The updates site includes a “client resources” section, an “insights” page of news and articles the firm has contributed to or authored, and adds Cloud 9 user access and online payments.

Nichols, Cauley & Associates, Atlanta, has joined global association BKR International as a member firm.

ILLINOIS

Sikich, Naperville, received a 2017 When Work Works award from the Society for Human Resource Management, recognizing employers that offer initiatives such as work-life fit policies, transition to parenthood programs, opportunities for learning, a culture of respect and trust and job autonomy.

MAINE

Baker Newman Noyes hosted its third annual Three-Day Experience May 17-19 in Portland, welcoming nearly 40 undergraduates from a dozen New England universities to the “pre-internship” recruitment event. (Read the full story.)

Rodman CPAs, Boston and Waltham, supported Fenway High School’s Make a Difference Event fundraising gala May 10 at the Harvard Club in Boston by attending, purchasing a half table, and making a donation of $500 to support after-school academic tutoring.

MICHIGAN

Plante Moran, Southfield, was named one of the 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials by Fortune.com, the only public accounting firm to make the list, which is based entirely on staff feedback from 398,000 surveys assessing organizations’ fairness, teamwork, benefits and other work culture elements.

NEW YORK

Grassi & Co., announced the firm is moving its Scarsdale offices to White Plains, occupying offices at 2 Westchester Park Drive Suite 200.

CBIZ MHM, New York, is holding a National CFO Photo Contest, for which CFOs have until July 7 to submit a photo of themselves engaging in their favorite hobby with the chance to win a summer vacation package. The submissions can be viewed here.

NORTH CAROLINA

DHG, Charlotte, was one of the corporate sponsors of the 2017 Capital Pride Festival, hosted by the Capital Pride Alliance in Washington, D.C., with more than 25 staff and partners participating. The firm also created and shared to social media a video featuring DHG members supporting the festival’s “unapologetically proud” theme and two “Life at DHG” podcasts with employees sharing why it is important to celebrate inclusion and diversity through special awareness campaigns.

OHIO

Walthall CPAs, Cleveland, was named to the 2017 Top Workplaces list by the Plain Dealer for the sixth time, based on the results of an employee feedback survey by WorkplaceDynamics.

PENNSYLVANIA

Six members of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause participated in the United Way of York County’s Day of Action, for which 900 volunteers performed 66 projects in one day for nonprofit organizations in York County.

In other firm news, Brandon Zlupko, partner, and Christine Zoerner, staff accountant, coordinated an accounting spotlight day for seven Juniata College students to travel to local companies.

Jeffrey Vrabel, partner, participated in the Central PA chapter of the Financial Executive International’s Outstanding Student night honoring ten accounting and finance students with a $1,000 scholarship, of which Baker Tilly sponsored one.

Cory Porrino, senior manager, graduated from Leadership Lehigh Valley, a program of Northampton Community College designed to teach executives how to be leaders at work and in the community.

Matthew Frasso, manager, graduated from Leadership Berks, a program of Alvernia University that identifies current and emerging leaders and provides them training on best practices in not-for-profit management and board governance.

Zachary Keenan, senior manager was chosen as one of Lehigh Valley Business’ Forty Under Forty award recipients for 2017, celebrating accomplished young business professionals.

Brian Weldin, manager, published an article in the Pennsylvania CPA Journal titled, “Deferred Compensation Plan Errors and How to Correct Them.”

The firm also recently co-hosted an employee benefit plans seminar with Barley Snyder and Conrad Siegel at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel for corporate finance and human resource professionals.

Baker Tilly also participated in a professional development session at The Hershey Company and sponsored by the Central PA Chapter of Financial Executives International.

Firm partner Brandon Zlupko recently gave a presentation titled “Financial Statement Literacy for the Non-Accountant” at a workshop sponsored by Leadership Centre County’s Transformational Leader Series.

MDR Advisory Group officially adopted the name Andersen Tax in Lugano as a member firm in the international association.
