Grant Thornton elected two new members to its partnership board: Mike Desmond, national client experience leader for audit and office managing partner for Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kelli Knoble, national business lines leader for the firm’s tax practice, who is based in Charlotte. In addition, two current board members were re-elected to new three-year terms: Enzo Santilli, transformation advisory business line leader and office managing partner for Pittsburgh, and Doreen Griffith, office managing partner for Dallas.

AM Best named a large number of accounting firms to its 2021 list of the Top Audit and Actuarial Firms in the insurance space. Among those that were in the top five in their categories were: BKD, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, Johnson Lambert, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Virginia Society of CPAs, in partnership with the American Institute of CPAs, announced the winners of the 2021 Women to Watch Awards, which recognize outstanding women CPAs who are committed to making significant contributions to the CPA profession, their organizations and to the greater advancement of women leaders in business. Catina Downey (right), owner of Catina Downey CPA LLC in Richmond, was named in the Experienced Leader Category, and Erin Burlew (left), assurance manager at DHG in Richmond, in the Emerging Leader Category.

Retired PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Raymond Vicks has been appointed to serve on the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board for a five-year term to begin on July 1, 2022. He will succeed member Graylin Smith.
