ALABAMA

Daryl Thomas, owner of Thomas Accounting and Income Tax Service, Selma, was named the 2023 Small Business Person of the Year for Alabama by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Thomas has been a tax preparer and accountant for 25 years and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child. He was also recently recognized by President Joe Biden for his accomplishments in his business.

CONNECTICUT

Michael Morrow was reappointed to a two-year term as chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, Norwalk, effective Jan. 1, 2024.

Anthony Cirone Jr., managing partner of CironeFriedberg, Shelton, was elected to the board of trustees at Union Savings Bank.

GEORGIA

Justin Smith was hired as chief financial officer at LeaseQuery, Atlanta.

MichaelSilver, Deerfield, was named one of the Best Places to Work in Illinois for the ninth straight year.

KENTUCKY

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs, Boston, awarded 51 scholarships totaling $175,000 to students from across the state as part of the MassCPAs Educational Foundation Scholarship Program.

Paul Stephens, former senior vice president of tax at AT&T, New York, joined Deloitte's U.S. Chief Tax Officer Program in the role of chief tax officer-in-residence.

CohnReznick, New York, announced the opening of its second annual Gamechangers in ESG Awards program, which recognizes companies that are advancing business sustainability by driving value and minimizing risk for their stakeholders through environmental, social and governance principles.
