ARIZONA

Rodolfo Paredes, shareholder and director of the international division at R&A CPAs, was named the Global Financial Leader of the Year by the Global Chamber Tucson at the 2018 Grow Globally Fair.

CALIFORNIA

Haskell & White, Irvine, was named to the Orange County Business Journal’s 2018 Civic 50, which honors the county’s top community-minded companies.

CONNECTICUT

BlumShapiro hosted a networking and interview skills workshop with the National Association of Black Accountants' Greater Hartford Chapter for college students. The event involved nearly 20 participants from schools like the University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State University and was held at BlumShapiro’s headquarters in West Hartford. The workshop included firm-led sessions on networking, interviewing skills and personal branding.

KANSAS

MarksNelson announced it is sponsoring "InVisible," a new art exhibit displaying works from the local homeless population, at the Museum at Prairiefire in Overland Park, Kansas. (Read the full story.)

MARYLAND

The Maryland Association of CPAs honored four business leaders as Maryland’s Women to Watch for 2018. Jill Gansler, chief financial officer of Regional Management, and Heather Latham, director of accounting and finance for R&F Metals, were honored in the Experienced Leader category and Maxene Bardwell, director of internal audit at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and Ebony Hypolite, a manager in SC&H Group’s business performance management consulting practice, were honored in the emerging leader category.

The National Association of Black Accountants, Greenbelt, announced Jesse Rhodes, Jr. to its board of directors as a national director.

MICHIGAN

Nicholas Eaton was promoted to junior staff accountant at Lewis & Knopf, Flint.

MISSOURI

Luke Luckett, senior tax manager at Anders CPAs & Advisors, St. Louis, was named 2018 Outstanding Young Professional by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Marissa Fifield was hired as a senior at Nathan Wechsler & Co., Concord.

NEW JERSEY

Patricia Fede was hired as a senior director in the professional standards group at Marks Paneth, Parsippany.

NEW YORK

Janover, New York, held its second annual Firm Summit Aug. 9 at the Eisenhower Park on Long Island, with special guest speaker Barry Melancon (pictured with Janover managing partner Mark Goodman), president and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs.

NORTH CAROLINA

Ben Johnson was promoted to senior tax manager at Blackman & Sloop CPAs, Chapel Hill.

OHIO

Bober Markey Fedorovich, Akron, promoted six: Dana Mountjoy to senior manager of assurance and advisory services; Nathan Lieb to manager of taxation services; Jonathan Palay and Travis Werner to senior accountants in assurance and advisory services; Geoffrey Zion to supervisor of taxation services; and Kurtis Thomson to senior accountant of taxation services. The firm also hired Sarah Dauerman as a senior audit accountant and Tyler Chaplin as a tax supervisor.

Skoda Minotti, Cleveland, announced it now accepts a variety of cryptocurrency, including bitcoin, for client service payments.

PENNSYLVANIA

Jody Doyne (pictured) was hired as a financial analysis and reporting manager at RKL, Wyomissing.

Haley Priester was hired as a staff accountant in the audit services department at Dunlap & Associates, Chalfont.

PORTUGAL

Gabinete de Consultoria e Gestão, Lisbon, joined INPACT as a member firm of the global association.

TEXAS

The Bonadio Group, Rochester, opened an office in Irving, entering the Dallas-Fort Worth market, with partner Jeff Wexler leading the office and expecting to add several new hires in the coming months.

UNITED KINGDOM

Amanda Long was appointed CEO of Morison KSi, London.

VIRGINIA

PBMares, Newport News, promoted 13 team members. The firm promoted, to senior: Joe Garatti, tax service, in Williamsburg, Jennifer Sciandra, assurance services, in Baltimore, and Kevin Whitley, assurance services, in Fairfax; to manager: Marilyn Kitchens, health care service, in Fredericksburg and Stephen Smark, assurance service, in Newport News. The firm also promoted, to supervisor in tax service: Cody Camblin in Richmond, Brian Day in Newport News, and Jonathan Mason in Harrisonburg; to supervisor in assurance service: Tyler Farnsworth and Andrea Nichols in Harrisonburg; Tanya Kozo to lead client data coordinator, in the consulting pathways service in the Harrisonburg office; Alex Crawford to portfolio manager consulting, in the wealth management service, in Williamsburg; and Heather Ceres to manager of human resources in the Fredericksburg office.
