When it comes to running a company, the business tax environment can make a significant difference to your prosperity.
The states in this ranking were rated on five taxes that impact businesses: corporate income, sales, property, unemployment insurance and individual income taxes. Each state was assigned a ranking relative to all 50 states per tax and an overall ranking was determined. (Note that corporate income and individual income saw multistate ties for first place.)
While property and unemployment insurance taxes are universal in every state, many of the best states for doing business do not have corporate income, sales or individual income taxes.
Scroll through to see which states are in the top 20, and which ranks as the No. 1 state for running a business.
