Top firms grow their share of public audits

The lion's share keeps going to a small group of lions in the world of auditing, with the leading auditing firms growing their share of public audits in 2021.

The most recent edition of Audit Analytics' annual "Who Audits Public Companies" report revealed that the 10 firms with the most public company audit clients accounted for 68.8% of the total market, up from 66.8% in 2020; they audited 4,578 registrants, versus 4,030 in 2020.

At the same time, the market share of the Big Four once again declined slightly (though they each actually increased their number of engagements), with the other members of the top 10 grabbing the extra share.
