Collecting revenue is perhaps the most critical function of the Internal Revenue Service, which brought in more than $4.9 trillion in gross taxes during the 2022 fiscal year.
From 2021 to 2022, seven different gross collection return types went up by more than 15% versus the amount collected year over year.
The top three types of taxes had an average increase in gross collections of 39.86% between 2021 and 2022, and accounted for more than $1.16 trillion combined in revenue.
