Former BDO Partner Pleads Guilty in Tax Shelter Scam

A chartered accountant from the U.K. who served as a former board member and vice chairman at global audit firm BDO Seidman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy with tax shelter promoters while claiming roughly $1 billion in fraudulent losses.

Adrian Dicker admitted to using false and misleading documents for clients to show the Internal Revenue Service to enter into tax shelters.

Dicker was a partner in the New York office of BDO from 1995 through 2000, and later was one of the heads of the firm’s Tax Solutions Group.

While at TSG, Dicker and other TSG partners reportedly designed and marketed two tax shelters in conjunction with the Chicago office of law firm Jenkins & Gilchrist and an international bank.

Dicker’s tax shelter allowed clients to evade more than $200 million in taxes.
