ABA's Fisher to Chair Global Accounting Group

Washington (Aug. 2, 2004) — Donna Fisher, director of the American Bankers Association’s tax and accounting group, has been elected chair of the London-based International Banking Federation's newly formed Accounting Working Group.

The new entity would represent IBF members on international accounting issues before groups such as the International Accounting Standards Board and the Basel Accounting Task Force.

The group also would develop and advocate IBF positions on accounting and disclosure issues, including fair value accounting and loan loss reserves.

IBF, whose members include the ABA, the European Banking Federation, the Australian Bankers’ Association and the Canadian Bankers Association, is an international forum created to address global legislative and regulatory issues.

Together, the banking associations of the IBF represent more than 18,000 banks with 275,000 branches and assets of more than $31 trillion.
