ADP has added Android smartphone support to its Run Powered by ADP payroll service for small businesses.

Clients using Run Powered by ADP can download the free mobile payroll app for their Android smartphone and begin managing and processing payroll for their employees and contractors through their mobile devices.

Google’s Android is now the leading smartphone operating system in the United States, with 31.2 percent of the market, according to recent research from comScore. In the near future, ADP said a similar app will be available for RIM BlackBerry devices.

ADP recently announced that 100,000 of its small business clients now use the Run Powered by ADP online system. With Run Powered by ADP, small businesses can enter and review payroll information for employees and contractors; pay via checks or direct deposits; calculate earnings and deductions along with federal, state and local taxes; review hours and earnings to confirm their accuracy before payroll is processed; preview payroll liability and cash required, and confirm the funds to be withdrawn; review reports from the current and previous periods in real time; and access HR411, a set of tools to help better manage human resources needs.

ADP’s mobile phone app is available for free from both the Android Market ( and the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (
