Automatic Data Processing's Small Business Services division released an online payroll system aimed at accountants who service small businesses.
Run, Powered by ADP, Payroll for Accountants, offers both do-it-yourself and fully outsourced payroll features. The software includes an Accountant's Dashboard sign-on screen showing all the companies the accountant has set up in payroll. The dashboard also offers access to firm information, check printing and security features.
Also included in Run are a payroll preview and W-2 preview that allow the accountant to review checks and W-2 forms for accuracy before they're processed. Accountants have the option to create a branded home page for their firm that can be accessed by their small-business clients.
"This product is geared toward accountants who want to be active in the payroll business," said Don Weinstein, vice president of strategy and marketing at ADP.
The software includes a general ledger interface that allows payroll journal entries to be exported to QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Accounting and other accounting packages via Microsoft Excel.
Run supports all federal, state, and over 4,000 local jurisdictions, as well as over 80 different earnings and deductions. It also includes special features for restaurants and other tipped establishments.
Employers can offer employees access to the application so they can view their own paycheck history over the past year. Accountants can also take advantage of consolidated billing that lists all client charges on one monthly bill.
