Alvarez & Marsal grows tax unit

Turnaround specialist Alvarez & Marsal has expanded its tax advisory unit, adding eight managing directors in several regional locations, and unveiling an office here.

Thomas Aiello, a 30-year veteran of Andersen, and James Eberle, a former tax partner at both KPMG and Andersen, joined the firm as managing directors in the new Washington practice of the Alvarez & Marsal Tax Advisory Services arm.

Craig Beaty, formerly with Ernst & Young, and Lynn Loden, whose background includes stints at both Deloitte and Andersen, were named managing directors at A&M's Houston-based tax practice.

The firm's Seattle office named former KPMG partner Brian Pedersen as a managing director, while Alvarez and Marsal's Silicon Valley branch named Martin O'Malley, a former tax partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, to the post of managing director.

Anthony Fuller and Melody Summers, both of whom previously worked in the tax practices at Andersen and Deloitte, joined the firm as managing directors in its San Francisco location.

The opening of the Washington office boosts the number of offices at A&M to 17.
